Mosaic Workshop Aroniadika Kythira

In the summer I run mosaic workshops from my studio, Studio Aliki, in the small village of Aroniadika, Kythera Greece. Kythera is a solitary Island south of the Peloponnese. It is a picturesque island steeped with history and tradition as well as light, sun, wild thyme and olive trees.

According to Hesiod the sea of Kythera is the birthplace of goddess Aphrodite (Venus).

The island of Kythera is the crossroads of Mediterranean cultures.

It has always been a welcoming haven for pirates, colonists, ascetics and the persecuted.

It has inspired not only Greek artists but also many others, such as the famous French Baroque Composer Francois Couperin and the French painter Antoine Watteau.

From this little corner of paradise I run 3 days and 2 days mosaic workshops. The courses are intensive and cover a lot in a short period of time: history, art of mosaic techniques, design methods and aesthetics.

During the workshop you will create your own unique mosaic art piece which you can take home with you framed and ready to hang on your wall. In addition you will be given detailed notes so that you will be able to make a mosaic project on your own after the course. No previous experience in mosaics is required.

Everyone is welcome. However, for more experienced participants, courses can be individually tailored to meet their creative needs.

Direct Method: The direct method is the most obvious technique for making a mosaic. The tesserae is fixed straight to the base of the mosaic and then grouted when adhesive has dried. { This method is easier than the indirect method as you get to see what you are putting down and can move tesserae around if you don't like it straight away}.
